New Beauty Product Review: Tarte + Kat Von D

I’m always buying and trying new beauty products, so I wanted to give you an honest first impression review of two new beauty products I recently added to my collection. Are they worth the hype? Read more to find out.

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick

If you’re at all into lipsticks, you’ve probably noticed a slow but steady transition away from matte liquid lips and back to tube lipstick, and for good reason. Matte liquids while vibrant can be drying or hard to wear. Tube lipstick solids are easier to apply and re-apply when you’re on the go. No mess, no fuss.

I have literally 10 shades of the Kat Von D everlasting liquid lippies, so for a more exact comparison I chose the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick. Lolita is one of my fave liquid colors, so I chose the shade “Lovecraft” in the studded lip which is a mauve pinky nude – a similar color family to Lolita only a few shades lighter. The color is considered “matte”, but it was very creamy and does have a slight sheen to it. This was exactly what I was looking for. The color payoff is awesome as well, full coverage and stayed in place all day (even through brunch)! I’ve already picked out a few more shades that I’ll grabbing at Sephora soon. Worth the hype? Absolutely.

Tarte Make Believe In Yourself: Limited-Edition Tarteist™ PRO Glitter Liner

The Tarte PRO Glitter Liner was an odd choice for me because I’m not into glitter – at all. I do however love rose gold makeup, so I went for it. This is a double ended liquid eyeliner – one end is “rose gold” and the other is a “glitter top coat”. I started by using the rose gold color to create a wing. I didn’t really plan on stopping there, but I liked the way it turned out, and decided to leave it at that.

The next day, I created my usual black winged liner, then swept the “glitter” liner just beneath the tail of the wing and in the inner corner. Baby steps. I didn’t want a full-on glitter eye look, so this was just enough to add some interest to my look without calling it a “glitter eye” look. I have yet to try the rose gold + the glitter as a top coat, but I plan to play around with this for my next festival makeup look.

So – is it worth the hype? Maybe. I would purchase it again for the rose gold liner, but I can live without the glitter.
